A web site doesn't have to run on cumbersome plug-ins to be eye-catching. There are a myriad of reasons why a plug-in might be a hassle for your visitor, and it is usually something they are not aware of. All they know is that your site seems to be slow or not functioning. As a result, they move on to another site.
If you want your site to be as accessible as possible, a site without plug-ins can be the best choice. See examples above.
